According to the American Heart Association, heart rate is the number of times your heart beats per minute. It is commonly called the “pulse”. The heart rate can also indicate how well the heart is pumping blood and supplying oxygen to the body. 

The normal heart rate depends on a person’s age. For adolescents and adults at rest, the normal range is 60-100 beats per minute. In healthy seniors, it can vary, often being around 70 beats per minute or lower

How to Check my Heart Rate?

Nowadays there are different methods to measure the heart rate:

  1. Manually: the most common areas to check your pulse are the wrists, the inside of the elbow, either side of your neck, and the top of the foot. You can locate the pulse in any of these places.

Locate the radial artery on either arm, then place your index and middle fingers lightly on the artery, and using a chronometer, count the number of beats in 60 seconds.

  1. Electronic Devices: There is a wide variety of devices available on the market such as monitors, electrocardiograms, lifestyle devices, etc. Some devices are more accurate and easier to manage than others; certain models do not require medical training for use (though medical criteria should still be considered).     Monitoring your heart is essential for understanding your or your loved one heart’s health. A normal resting heart rate ranges from 60-100 bpm, depending on age.
